Dear Cathy, thank you for your intervention! The news that we have are being provided by our members from Iranian Kurdistan. It may well be that not of details would be revealed by the Iranian authorities. Nevertheless I refer mostly to Mrs. Shamzin Jihani. The death sentence has been given to 2 Kurdish male journalists: 1) Adnan Hassanpour 2) Hiwa Butimar The case of Mr. Hassanpour is known to us and the WiPC. Mr. Hiwa Butimar is of Kurdish origin but worked mostly for the Persian-speaking mass media. He also used to work for the official newspapers. The news of his sentence came to us relatively late, therefore we did not mention him. Mr. Adnan Hassanpour was arrested 7 months ago, he was not allowed to have access to a defending lawyer (Mr. Butimar had got the same prohibition). Mr. Hassanpour was originally arrested because of his cooperation with the hostile powers (meaning his interview to the Voice of America). However, there has been no official charge. Only a couple of weeks ago both Hassanpour and Butimar have been charged with action against Islam that leads to the death sentence in Iran. It is remarkable that first there was no talk of anti-Islamic actions, the charge has been imposed on them later, probably to justify their detention. According to our members, all the data concerning both persons are incomplete and inofficial. Their relatives and friends have no access to them. I shall tell you more as the news reach us. Thank you again. Warmly, Zorab --- Cathy McCann <Cathy.McCann@internationalpen.org.uk> wrote: > Thank you Zorab for this sad news.
